Behind

2002

The subject seems to not identify itself on the plate, it deviates rather than directs the gaze, and yet it practises an action. It can therefore set itself apart from the content of the image, because behind it, it is the gaze of the photographer which holds up the thread and pulls it to one side. Thus, having justified the title, we can give into the illusion that the person observing is, in turn, being observed.
